Weekend Meditation: When do you read manga?

Lately I haven’t been able to get myself to read through one volume of manga I’m on. Normally, I devour manga during the week and barely read any over the weekend, mainly because I want to spend the extra time on the weekend with my boyfriend, with friends or with family. During the week, when there’s a break from freelance work or when I’m just sitting around and waiting for a work e-mail, it’s a lot easier to devour lots of manga. Plus, during the evening when my boyfriend’s home from work, he’s often busy with projects, so reading manga is a good way not to disturb him.

I realize that my habits are unusual because I’m a freelancer, so when do you find the time to read through your manga stash? Weeknights? Weekends? During a lunch break? When does a normal manga fan read their manga?

For me… Reading manga usually happens in bulk… Sometimes afternoon or even late night for me.

Usually during my commute, I get about one hour a day that way.

    I have two ways:

One: When I commute (I go by train on my way to work during the summer)
Two: When I have nothing else to do 😀 In other words, I usually force myself to read it in a few days after I buy it.

The manga I buy, I read in bed before going to sleep. I used to read novels years ago, but the bad thing about a good novel is the temptation to keep reading another chapter. With manga I buy, I read a volume I have at my nightstand and then go to sleep. Occasionally I read more IF I’m not too sleepy, but the great thing about manga is that it is a light read (except for Miyazaki-sensei) and getting to an end of a volume is psychologically good enough. ^_^

I read A LOT of manga… All on the ipad now.

2 hours of commuting on the subway. And then probably 2 hours before bed. Sometimes I’ll read some on my lunch break or at a bar after work.

On the weekend I read it on the subway if I go somewhere, if I go to the beach, etc…

On the train. 😀 or lunch breaks at work.

I usually read it when taking extended breaks while studying. It’s a great way to escape the stress without having to leave my desk. I’ll also occasionally substitute it for reading novels as well, because it generally makes for lighter, easier reading, especially when one is very tired.

I usually try to squeeze in my library haul just before I go to sleep. It helps me look forward to relaxing after a long day. A nice little treat!

I noticed people commenting are starting to read them on tablets. Although I am planning to get one, I think I’m still going to miss the physical quality of the book itself and the feel of turning pages.

My boyfriend and I ride to work together, so one on the way to work, and one on the way back. I also read manga when he wants to watch sports. But otherwise I don’t have a designated time, when a series has me truly absorbed nothing else but the manga matters. WELL I wouldn’t cancel plans or friends/family time no matter how good a series is.
